Professional Tile Floor Installation in Orlando, FL

When it comes to tile flooring installation in Orlando, no job is too complex for Cavalieri Flooring's certified tile setters. We install ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, large-format slabs, mosaic, and outdoor-rated tile for kitchens, bathrooms, entryways, shower enclosures, pool decks, and covered lanais throughout Central Florida. Whether you are upgrading a single bathroom or retiling an entire first floor in Winter Garden, Clermont, or Kissimmee, we bring laser-level precision and material expertise to every project — backed by a written workmanship warranty and a full post-installation walk-through.

Tile is the most durable, waterproof, and long-lasting floor covering available — and in Florida's hot, humid climate, it is an especially smart investment. Unlike luxury vinyl plank or laminate, tile handles pool-deck sun exposure, steam showers, and outdoor monsoon rains without warping, swelling, or fading. Properly installed and sealed, a tile floor in an Orlando home can last 30 to 50 years with minimal maintenance — making it one of the highest-return flooring investments for both resale value and long-term enjoyment.

Our team manages the complete installation from subfloor assessment and slab moisture testing through tile layout, setting, grouting, sealing, and trim. We treat subfloor preparation and waterproofing as standard — not an afterthought — because the substrate beneath the tile determines whether your floor looks perfect for five years or fifty. Visit our Orlando showroom to browse hundreds of in-stock tile samples, or call us to schedule your free in-home estimate today.

Pool Deck & Outdoor Tile Installation in Orlando

Florida's outdoor living culture makes pool deck and lanai tile one of our most requested services. Whether you have a screened enclosure, an open pool surround, or a covered outdoor kitchen in Orlando, Winter Garden, or Clermont, we select and install tile specifically engineered for Florida's intense sun, frequent rain, and salt-air exposure. The right tile — properly installed with a waterproofing membrane and sealed grout — will look stunning and stay safe for decades without cracking, staining, or fading.

Slip safety is non-negotiable outdoors. We only specify tile with a DCOF (Dynamic Coefficient of Friction) rating of 0.42 or higher for pool decks and patio surfaces — typically textured or brushed porcelain rated PEI 4–5, or natural cleft slate. Polished marble and high-gloss tile are never used near water. For pool copings and the immediate pool edge, we use bull-nose or drop-face tile with a grip-textured face so bare feet stay safe whether the surface is wet or dry.

Waterproofing beneath the tile is equally critical. Florida's slab-on-grade construction and frequent moisture means every outdoor tile installation needs a waterproofing membrane at the substrate level — particularly in areas that drain toward the house foundation. We apply RedGard or Schluter Ditra as standard on all outdoor and wet-area installations, protecting your slab and preventing efflorescence (white mineral staining) from working through the grout lines over time.

For grout, we default to epoxy outdoors. Epoxy grout is non-porous, mold-resistant, and immune to the salt and chlorine exposure that gradually deteriorates cement grout in Florida outdoor settings. Where cement grout is specified, we apply a penetrating sealer at installation and recommend annual resealing — a 30-minute task that dramatically extends the life and appearance of your outdoor tile.

Outdoor Tile Quick-Reference: What We Recommend for Central Florida
  • Pool deck & surround: Textured porcelain 12×24 or 24×24, PEI 5, DCOF 0.60+, epoxy grout
  • Covered lanai: Large-format porcelain 24×24 or 32×32 — can use light polish since shielded from rain
  • Outdoor kitchen & bar: Porcelain or natural slate — epoxy grout, sealed annually
  • Exposed patio: Textured slate or travertine — sandblasted or tumbled finish for grip
  • Pool coping: Bull-nose or drop-face porcelain, non-slip textured face, coordinating mortar

Tile vs LVP for Florida Homes

The most common flooring decision Orlando homeowners face: ceramic/porcelain tile or luxury vinyl plank. Both are 100% waterproof and built for slab construction. Here's how they compare for Florida living.

Feature Ceramic/Porcelain Tile LVP (SPC)

Install Cost (labor + material) $8 – $22/sq ft $4 – $10/sq ft
Best Rooms Bathrooms, kitchens, foyers, pool areas Living rooms, bedrooms, whole-home

Many Orlando homeowners choose tile in wet zones and LVP in living areas — we install both and can show you how they transition beautifully at your free estimate.

Tile Installation FAQs

Porcelain is denser, less porous, and harder than ceramic — making it better for high-moisture areas, outdoor use, and heavy traffic. We typically recommend porcelain rated PEI 4 or 5 for Florida pool decks, patios, and bathrooms. Ceramic is easier to cut and less expensive, ideal for walls, backsplashes, and lower-traffic floors. We'll guide you to the right choice based on the room and your budget.

Tile can be installed over existing tile if it is structurally sound, level, and firmly bonded — with no hollow or loose sections. However, adding a layer raises the floor height, which can affect transitions and door clearances. For Florida slab homes, we always perform a moisture test before installation. Loose, cracked, or hollow-sounding existing tile must be removed first to ensure a lasting result.

Light foot traffic is generally safe after 24 hours once the thin-set mortar has set. Full cure takes 72 hours before placing heavy furniture or exposing the floor to standing water. Grout should cure 24–48 hours before sealing. In Florida's humid conditions, we always recommend sealing grout with a penetrating sealer — it dramatically reduces mold and staining over time.

Yes. Electric radiant heating mats installed beneath tile are popular in Florida bathrooms and kitchens during our cooler months. The heating mat goes over the subfloor before tile setting and connects to a programmable thermostat. Porcelain and ceramic conduct radiant heat efficiently. We can include radiant heating as part of your estimate — it adds comfort without significantly increasing install time.

In Florida's humid climate, we recommend mid-tone grout — gray, taupe, or warm beige — over pure white, which shows staining and mold faster. Epoxy grout is the gold standard for showers, pool areas, and outdoor tile because it is non-porous and mold-resistant. We always recommend sealing cement grout annually in Florida to protect against moisture and staining.

Slip resistance is measured by DCOF (Dynamic Coefficient of Friction). For indoor wet areas we use tile rated DCOF 0.42+. For pool decks, patios, and shower floors we select textured porcelain or natural stone specifically rated for wet outdoor use. We never specify polished marble or high-gloss tile for pool decks or shower floors — safety is always the priority.

Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove grit that scratches glazed surfaces. Mop with warm water and a pH-neutral tile cleaner — avoid acidic or bleach-based cleaners that erode grout. Reseal cement grout annually with a penetrating sealer to prevent mold and staining in Florida's humidity. For outdoor tile, rinse with fresh water periodically to remove salt-air deposits. Professional deep cleaning every 1–2 years keeps tile looking showroom-fresh.

Both are 100% waterproof and built for slab construction — excellent for Florida. Tile wins for pool decks, outdoor areas, bathrooms, and high-resale-value finishes — it also lasts 20–50+ years. LVP wins for comfort, noise reduction, and budget — especially in living rooms and bedrooms. Many Orlando homeowners choose tile in wet zones and LVP in living areas, and we install both so we can show you how they transition beautifully.

Contrary to popular belief, larger tiles can actually make a small bathroom feel bigger — fewer grout lines create a cleaner, more expansive look. A 12×24 or 18×18 porcelain in a light neutral color works extremely well in compact Florida bathrooms. For shower floors, 3×3 or 4×4 mosaic sheets provide better grip and slope control. We always dry-lay tiles before setting to check the proportion and avoid awkward narrow cuts at walls or the toilet.

Yes — we handle the complete shower package: waterproofing membrane (RedGard or Schluter Kerdi), Schluter shower system or traditional mud-bed pan, wall tile setting, niche framing and tile, mosaic shower floor, linear or standard drain, and grouting with sealant. Waterproofing and tile installation should never be separated — every leak we have been called to fix traces back to waterproofing done by a different contractor than the tile setter. We do both in one scope so accountability is never split.

Large-format tile is any tile 15 inches or larger on its shortest side — commonly 24×24, 24×48, or 32×32 porcelain. It is the dominant trend in Central Florida new construction and renovations because it creates an expansive, modern look with minimal grout lines, making floors easier to clean. However, large-format tile requires a very flat, level substrate — Florida's concrete slabs are usually excellent for this. It also requires back-buttering every tile for full coverage. Our team has the equipment and experience to lay large-format tile without lippage or hollow spots.

Matching existing tile after a repair is one of the most challenging aspects of tile work, especially if the original tile is discontinued. We recommend that homeowners always keep 10–15% of leftover tile from any installation for future repairs. If no extra tile exists, we can sometimes find a close match or use a contrasting accent tile to create a deliberate design feature rather than an obvious patch. We always recommend reviewing a repair tile sample next to your existing floor in your actual lighting conditions before committing.

Florida's year-round humidity and warm temperatures create ideal conditions for mold, mildew, and grout staining — especially in bathrooms, laundry rooms, and outdoor areas. Unsealed cement grout is porous, so moisture, soap, and minerals penetrate and stain or grow mold within months. The solution: (1) choose epoxy grout for all wet areas and outdoors — it never needs sealing and is inherently mold-resistant; (2) seal cement grout with a penetrating sealer at installation and annually thereafter; (3) choose mid-tone grout colors (gray, taupe) that hide gradual staining between sealings. We include grout sealing as standard on all our installations.

How to Choose a Tile Installer in Orlando

Not all tile installations are created equal. Tile work is highly skilled — bad tile setting shows immediately and lasts forever. Before hiring any tile installer in Central Florida, here is what to look for, what to ask, and what red flags to avoid.

Ask about moisture testing. Florida's concrete slabs hold moisture at levels that can debond tile adhesive over time if not properly tested and managed. Any reputable Orlando tile installer should perform a calcium chloride or relative humidity in-situ probe test before setting tile on a slab — especially for renovations over older concrete. If a contractor skips this step, the adhesive bond is being gambled with.

Verify they handle their own waterproofing. Shower leaks are the number-one callback in the tile industry — and nearly all of them result from waterproofing that was done by a different trade than the tile setter, creating a handoff gap in accountability. Ask specifically: "Do your tile setters install the waterproofing membrane, or do you subcontract that?" The answer should be "we do both."

Request a written, itemized estimate. A legitimate tile contractor will provide a line-item quote that separates labor, materials, waterproofing, grout, and trim costs. Vague "per square foot all-in" quotes often hide shortcuts on substrate prep, thinset quality, or grout type. Our estimates itemize every component so you know exactly what you are paying for and why.

Check their large-format tile experience. Large-format porcelain (24×24 and up) is now the default choice in Orlando renovations, but it demands a flatter substrate, a larger-notch trowel, back-buttering every tile, and more careful lippage control than standard formats. Ask to see photos of completed large-format projects and confirm they have a floor grinder for leveling high spots on existing slabs.

At Cavalieri Flooring, every tile project includes: licensed and insured installers, a pre-installation slab moisture test, waterproofing in all wet areas as standard, a written workmanship warranty, and a final walk-through punch list before we consider the job done.
