Sustainable Bamboo Flooring Installation in Orlando, FL

Cavalieri Flooring provides professional bamboo flooring installation across Orlando and Central Florida — strand-woven solid bamboo, engineered bamboo, and eucalyptus planks installed by trained crews who understand how bamboo behaves in Florida humidity. Bamboo is one of the hardest natural floors you can buy (Janka ratings up to 5,000+ for strand-woven), and when it is installed correctly with proper acclimation and the right substrate, it can outlast traditional hardwood while staying a renewable, eco-friendly choice.

Whether you are putting bamboo in a new build, replacing tired carpet, or refreshing a primary living area, our team handles acclimation, moisture testing, subfloor prep, nail-down or floating installation, transitions, and finish work. Browse the CALI Bamboo Collection at our showroom on 36th Street, then we will come measure and quote your project.

Bamboo Installation FAQs

Yes, when it is installed correctly. Bamboo is a natural product and it expands and contracts with humidity, just like hardwood. We acclimate every box in your home for 3–7 days before installation, use a proper vapor barrier on slabs, and leave the right expansion gap at walls. Engineered bamboo (or click-lock floating bamboo) is the most forgiving option for Florida slab construction.

Strand-woven bamboo is harder than most domestic hardwoods — Janka ratings of 3,000–5,000+ versus oak at around 1,290. It is also a renewable resource (bamboo regrows in 5–7 years), typically less expensive than equivalent-hardness hardwood, and available in wide-plank formats that mimic the look of premium engineered oak.

Yes. Floating click-lock bamboo and glue-down engineered bamboo both install over concrete slabs with the right moisture barrier and a properly leveled substrate. We perform concrete moisture testing before every slab installation. Solid nail-down bamboo requires a plywood subfloor, not concrete.

Almost always, yes. We remove existing carpet, tile, vinyl, or laminate down to the subfloor so we can verify substrate condition, level any low spots, and install moisture barriers. We offer floor removal as part of the same project — see our floor removal service.

Solid strand-woven bamboo can typically be sanded and refinished 1–2 times over its lifespan. Engineered bamboo has a thinner real-bamboo wear layer and is usually not refinishable, but its factory finish (aluminum-oxide UV-cured) is extremely durable and rarely needs refinishing in a residential setting.

For nail-down and floating installations, you can walk on the floors immediately after install. For glue-down installations, we recommend staying off the new floor for 24 hours so the adhesive can set, and waiting 72 hours before placing heavy furniture.

Strand-woven bamboo is made by shredding bamboo fibers and binding them under extreme heat and pressure — creating a material 2–3x denser than traditional flat-pressed or vertical bamboo. Janka hardness of 3,000–5,000+ versus oak at 1,290. It resists denting, scratching, and moisture significantly better than conventional bamboo, making it the preferred option for Florida households with pets, kids, or active lifestyles.

LVP wins on total waterproofing (100% vs bamboo's water resistance), ease of installation over concrete slabs, and lower installed cost. Bamboo wins on hardness (far denser than LVP's rigid core), eco-friendly certification, and a more authentic natural wood look and feel. Many Orlando homeowners choose LVP in kitchens, bathrooms, and entryways for complete waterproofing, and bamboo in living rooms and bedrooms for its warmth and Janka durability. We install both and can show you how they transition at your free estimate.
